मायूस हूँ, हाँ
फ़क़ीर तो नहीं
हमदर्दी माँगता हूँ
कोई खैरात तो नहीं.

गैरतमंद हूँ औ'
सिजदा करता हूँ
सर झुकाता हूँ मगर
नवाज़िश में नहीं.

Yes, I’m dejected but not a beggar
I do want empathy but not charity.
