Goldfish...

I'm very safe though
in this sparkling crystal bowl
filled with temperature controlled
mineral water,
and being fed on
carefully measured
couples of granules.

My admirers come
dressed in
immaculate Armanis
or Victoria's Secrets(beneath),
wearing Chanel No5
or Pour Homme.

But I'm tired of
this 20"x20" jar,
and its safe confinement.

I want to live..
Live life dangerously
in a river, lake or ocean.

Swim miles swiftly
in sweet or saline waters smartly,
hungry sometimes
and satiated at others.

Or being destroyed even
when I'm sluggish,
without regrets
whatsoever!

  13. Like a life not examined, a life lived within the confines of safety and certainty is a life wasted. Love the thought behind these lines. Thanks for making me think, Amit.

  14. Amit.. we are all living a life like this Goldfish! But, I have a couple of them in a huge tank.Bowls make them claustrophobic. They've been with me for over seven years now! And...they respond and play with everyone at home! To me, they look pretty happy :D
No, I should not feel bad...or guilty, they're my babies..:)))
    Loved this poem, Amit.
