Perennial

Will the Ganga defile
If I end
My life in it
To reunite with Thee?

Why no my soul
Is too pure
To pollute it
For the moments it remains
In there..

And the biodegradable body
Will satiate the fish
Within couple of hours.

Ah but for the stent
In my heart
And the ache!

  1. Wow! This gem of a poem made me ache. We may feel that longing through a long and productive life. It changes but never leaves.

    1. Oh you make me so happy Rosemary:) An overall concision and a cogent ending were kept in mind when this was being composed! Thanks a whole lot for taking note of the same:)

  9. So good to read you again, Amit!! As usual, brilliantly put. The last stanza, a sudden, personal address, makes the perfect envoi. Loved it.

  15. The Ganga was born to be defiled, sir. You make little difference. But your poem makes a whole world of a difference.

  16. Oh yes! What happens to the aches and pains...do they go with body or the soul take those with it. Lovely to read this. Profound.

  18. It seems that even Ganga can't diminish that ache....It will simply help in to take another shape..In another birth..Like the energy, which can't be destroyed just altered.
    Profound.

    1. Happy to see the technical part being attested by a scientist:):) We always discuss aesthetics or the philosophical aspect only:) Thank you Kokila ma'am:):) Glad..!

    2. Ha ha...The technical point! But, I actually 'feel' so that the body is devoured, the soul will be there only for a few minutes( perhaps) and will be cleansed but the ache...Ah! It will not diminish. May be it will become a scar in the next birth or even a hole in the heart? A case of the ache getting tangible?
