I bumped into this pot smoking young baba on his way to Mahakumbh, Prayag, the greatest recorded event on earth with a gathering of 100 million! Apart from his flawless, glowing skin and lustrous hair I was fascinated by his hypnotic eyes. He was aware of his photogenic face as he told me that he was clicked by hundreds of foreigners whenever he came down from the Himalayas. He claimed to have attained the Ultimate. Who knows...but if not Enlightenment, I saw that he had attained ecstasy and bliss under the influence of grass!

DeleteThose eyes give me the creeps... somehow these self-proclaimed babas and sadhus scare me, perhaps because they believe in their own "holiness" and don't spare any opportunity to convince the world of their divinity... they consider themselves above the laws that apply to mere humans, and manage to get away with the most depraved and heinous activities without consequences, often labelling it as necessary and recommended action justified by their proximity to God and salvation...
ReplyDeleteYour picture perfectly captures that self-assurance and narcissism... it is simultaneously impressive and frightening..
Thank you Meenakshi for noticing all these things in this capture:)
DeleteAMitJi
ReplyDeleteI saw many real sadhus some of them have habits like smoking, drinking etc which as per them is a part of their sadhana. Some of them do not resort to any of these things. But all of them has very bright eyes and as if halo around them. One of them who was very simple told me that if we clean our utensils it becomes very bright. While cleaning you may use ash, soap etc. But if your pot is free from grease etc do you need any kind of detergent. Your cooking utensils need the detergents. But the one you keep the Gangajal do not require any cleaning agent. However the result in both the cases are the same. So through Yogic sadhna you clean you soul inside your body and depending upon your process of living and liking the cleaning agents vary. Whatever may be the case in both the cases a brightness comes out from your body, the housing of your soul.
Absolutely correct, and I agree! No disputes at all!! That is why I have written 'who knows..'in my intro.
DeleteThank you Pradip for your kind interest in my post:)

Good one. If he is from the himalaya then why does he need to smoke pot? Anyone who is blessed to witness the beauty of the himalaya and the holiness of the place will never require pot for ecstasy. Does he charge for being photographed so that he can buy some more pot? :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! I too get intoxicated by its beauty and Divinity!
DeleteNo, he doesn't charge for if we are mesmerized by the Beauty, Booty is also available there in Bounty:):)
